WHO
Gary Paranzino is a lawyer with over twenty years of experience.
Since 2001 he has operated his own law firm, focusing on matters arising in the technology and financial industries, as well as those in other businesses.
His goal is to serve individuals and start-up companies in these fields with the same savvy and vigor as in his large law firm work but with a wholly different economic approach for the client.
"In my technology work as a General Counsel I noticed that the 'moneyed' parties (investors and established companies) were always represented by expensive big firm legal counsel. The parties they were negotiating against -- their own employees and executives, small companies and sometimes their own founders, usually were not represented or advised properly by anyone."
He assumed that at least a few of these unrepresented parties would have happily used a lawyer, if they could have identified an attorney with the academic credentials, practical experience and personality to go toe-to-toe with their big firm adversaries.
"I saw an opening to serve this market, if I could have the senior partner -- me -- give all the advice and counsel by using my own familiarity with technology to create a new way of serving clients for fees that made sense."
He realized that, if what he wanted to do was easy, there would already be plenty of others doing it. But the upside of serving these ignored technology players was tantalizing to him.
"The benefit to me of succeeding would be a steady stream of interesting legal and business matters with something at stake for my clients, and happy clients who would recognize that their legal fee was a sound investment, worth repeating."
